Linking Aadhar with PAN has become mandatory because your income tax return would not be processed if your Aadhar is not linked with PAN. The deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar card is 30 June 2020.

How to link PAN Card with Aadhaar Card?

Linking of Aadhaar and PAN card through e-Filing website

Linking PAN card with Aadhaar card can be done easily by logging to the Income Tax e-Filing portal. Generally, there are two ways of linking through Income Tax portal:

1. Without logging in your account

Step 1: Visit www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and on the left, click on “Link Aadhaar”.

Step 2: Now, enter the required details, including PAN, Aadhaar Number, name as per Aadhaar, etc.

Step 3: Select/tick “I have the only year of birth in Aadhaar Card” only if the dates are not being mentioned in your Aadhaar card.

Step 4: Now, again select/tick “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details with UIDAI”.

Step 5: Enter the code as shown in the image and finally click on “Link Aadhaar”.

Note: Aadhaar OTP will be required if any minor mismatch is found in Aadhaar Name. Before submitting the details, check that the date of birth and gender are exactly the same as in PAN and Aadhaar card. Rarely, when the name in PAN and Aadhaar is totally different, then the linking won’t be successful and the assessee has to change the name in PAN or Aadhaar database.

2. By logging in your account

Step 1: Registered taxpayers have to log in to the e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department by entering the User ID and password. If not registered, register yourself first and then proceed.

Step 2: As you log in to the site, a pop-up will appear automatically, which would ask to link your PAN with Aadhaar card. If the pop-up doesn’t appear, go to the blue tab on the top bar named “Profile Settings” and select “Link Aadhaar”.

Step 3: At the time of registration on the e-Filing portal, details like name, date of birth and gender will automatically be mentioned on the screen. Now, match the details as mentioned in your Aadhaar card.

Step 4: If the details are verified, enter your 12 digits Aadhaar number and Captcha Code and click on “Link Now”.

Step 5: Now, a pop-up message will show that “Aadhaar-PAN linking is completed successfully”.
