General Elector: Apply for voter ID card Online for Resident Indians

General Electors are ordinary citizens of India who are residing in the country. You should be at least 18 years old on the qualifying date of January 1st.

Obtaining the right form

  • Visit the official website of the Election Commission.
  • Click on National Voter's Service Portal. You will be redirected to the NVSP website.
  • Click on Apply online for registration of new voter
  • nvsp form 6 will open up for you to fill in.

Filling and submitting nvsp Form 6

You can choose your preferred language from Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Hindi, English, Punjabi, Tamil, Telegu, and Urdu.

  1. Select your State and your Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency.
  2. Enter your details that includes:

  • Name
  • Age and Date of birth
  • Details of place of birth
  • Father's/Mother's/ Husband's Name
  • Address
  • Contact details
  • Details of family members who are already enrolled.

  1. Any field marked with an asterisk is a mandatory field and has to be filled in.
  2. You can then upload supporting documents:

  • A recent colored passport sized photo
  • Scanned copy of proof of residence
  • Scanned copy of proof of age/identity

  1. Enter your place and date of filling in the form.
  2. You can save your filled form and continue at a later time. If you've completed your form, you can click on Submit.

Post Submission Procedure

  • Your form will be displayed on the notice board of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) inviting objections. If any objection needs to be made by anyone, they have a one-week window.
  • After this period, an order will be given to include your name in the electoral roll.
  • In case of any objections, then the ERO or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) will hear the applicant and the objector's cases.
  • You will receive notice of whether your name has been included in the Electoral Roll or not by post and SMS on the number you provide.
  • Electoral Rolls can be viewed on the state's Chief Electoral Officer's website.

Correction, verification of Voter ID: With the Assembly elections in three states – Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand – round the corner, the Election Commission has launched a mega drive to ensure that the people have correct details on their Voter ID cards.

 the Electoral Verification Program (EVP) will ensure that no individuals face difficulty in casting vote during the election.Errors in spelling or incorrect names can now be rectified online. Voters who find that their name has been misspelt or is wrong can get their name corrected in the list by following this process:

·Log onto the official website dedicated to providing services to voters, the National Voters Services Portal by clicking here. http://www.nvsp.in

·Navigate to the section titled “Correction of entries in electoral roll” and click on it.

·A new page opens up. Click on “Form 8” in the page.You can also get the same on Voter Helpline App.

·This will direct you to the actual page wherein you can request for voter card correction.

·Enter the following details in the form.

·Enter the required details like State and Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency, name, part number of electoral roll, serial number, gender, and age, family details, complete address etc and submit

·Select the details that need to be corrected/changed eg. click on ‘My Name’ to correct only the name in your voter ID

·Enter the city, date of request, and contact information

·If you have a voter ID card which has been issued, provide details like the card number, date when it was issued, the state where it was issued, and the constituency it was issued for.

·Once these details are entered you will have to upload documents which support them. These include your latest photograph, a valid ID and address proof.

·Verify all the information and click on Submit

·A reference number will be generated, through which you can track the status of your application online.

·Once submitted, your application will be processed and information verified by the electoral authorities.

·If the verification is successful, you will receive a notification and you can collect the voter ID card from the nearest electoral office

When You Correct Your Address

 

 Address proof: The Election Commission has approved the use of following seven documents as proof of address – Aadhar, Driving license, Passport, Ration card, Government officials can use their ID card, Bank Passbook, Farmer’s ID card. Apart from these PAN card, latest water, electricity, telephone, gas bill can also be produced as residential proof

 

For correction of name or changes

For verification of correction of name, upload a document where the name is spelled correctly eg. passport, PAN card or any official document.In case of change of name, upload official proof such as copy of the government gazette.
