Lenovo K10 Note Review

Lenovo K10 Note is one of the few smartphones that is equipped with a telephoto camera sensor in the price segment of less than Rs 15,000. Most handset manufacturer companies offer wide-angle camera sensors in their smartphones in this segment, but Lenovo has tried to do something different and has included telephoto sensors in its latest smartphone Lenovo K10 Note. Speaking of Lenovo K10 Note Price in India, its initial price is Rs 13,999. At this price, 4 GB RAM variants of Lenovo K10 Note will be sold. We have a 4 GB RAM variant of Lenovo K10 Note for review.

Lenovo K10 Note's direct competition in this price segment will be from handsets like Realme 5 Pro, Vivo Z1 Pro (review) and Xiaomi Mi A3 (review) in the market. Lenovo's 10 Note has a large battery, high-resolution display and powerful processor, let's know about Lenovo's 10 Note in detail.

Lenovo K10 Note design

We talked about the handset's simplistic design in the first impressions of Lenovo's 10 Note. It has a good design but is not going to attract attention. The body is made of plastic, which has good quality and the phone feels strong. We liked that the back and sides are made from the same piece of plastic, due to which the phone's grip in the hands was quite good.

We have the Knight Black color variant of the Lenovo K10 Note for review, although it was difficult to keep clean. The spots on the plastic back panel were not easy to clean. Currently only one color variant of the phone has been launched. The volume and power buttons are on the right side of the phone, while the dual-SIM slot is found on the left side of the phone.

Both slots come with 4G VoLTE support, while the fingerprint sensor has got a place for security in the back of the phone. MicroSD card can be used to increase internal storage, but the thing to note is that you need to remove another SIM for this. Meaning only one SIM and one microSD card can be used on this phone.

All ports are at the bottom of Lenovo's 10 Note. The 3.5mm headphone jack will come in the middle while playing a game with wire headphones if you hold the phone in landscape mode. The speaker will not block easily as it is placed above the USB Type-C port. Lenovo's 10 Note has a 6.3-inch full-HD + LCD display on which colors look good.

The phone does not have Gorilla Glass, but according to Lenovo, the K10 Note uses Panda Glass. Viewing angles are also good, the display comes with dewdrop-notch but the bezels are not too thin nor too thick. The notification LED has a place in the earpiece. The fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone also correctly identifies.

There is also a Fen unlock feature, but Android Pie's default smart lock feature is slow and does not work properly in low light. In the retail box, Lenovo's 10 Note will get an 18-watt fast charger, Type-C cable, SIM eject tool, and some manuals. For the information of people, let us know that there will be no case with the phone.

Lenovo K10 Note specifications and software

Lenovo K10 Note has a powerful processor, the handset is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC. This octa-core chip is made from a 10 mm fabrication process. The Lenovo K10 Note price starts at Rs 13,999 in India. 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage variants will be sold at this price.

We have a 4 GB RAM variant of Lenovo K10 Note for review. On the other hand, the price of 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage variants of this handset is Rs 15,999. Both versions include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 AC, Bluetooth 5, USB OTG, FM radio, GPS and Dolby Atmos support for speakers and headphones.

Accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, compass and proximity sensor are part of this phone. Lenovo's 10 Note runs on the custom version of Android 9 Pie, but customization is not too heavy so overall its look and feel is close to stock Android. The notification shade is designed in such a way that you will see only two lines of toggle switches in it.

Instead of the second swipe-down action for the other buttons, you have to swipe left. The order of the switch can be customized. A large clock will appear on the Lenovo K10 Note home screen as a widget, which will also give you information about the weather etc. Swiping up from the home screen will open the app drawer.

The Settings app also has some additional features such as the 4D U-Touch menu, this feature helps you swap three-button navigation for gestures. Our review unit is running on the May 2019 Android Security patch which is quite old. We also liked features such as screenshot editor or in-built screen recording. Lenovo K10 Note does not have much bloatware, in the phone you will find Lenovo curated App Store App Daily which is nothing special. The phone will get pre-installed games like Asphalt Nitro, Puzzle Pets and Spider-Man: Ultimate Power, but you can also uninstall these games if you want.

Lenovo K10 Note performance and battery life

Despite the larger display in the Lenovo K10 Note, it feels compact. The phone was easy to use due to the slim body and lightweight of the device. It is possible to use the phone to some extent with one hand but it is still difficult to reach the upper corners of the screen. Android ran well in our 4 GB RAM variants. Apps loaded fast and heavy games also performed well.

It did not heat up on normal use of the phone, but it did get slightly warmer while playing the game. We played PUBG Mobile on a high preset and the phone did not get hot even after 30 minutes of gameplay. Lenovo's 10 Note runs media playback well. The high-resolution video on the display looks good and due to being Dolby Atomos, the sound is also better than the single speaker on the phone.

You can choose from three presets, Dynamic, Music, and Movie. The battery life of the phone is also good. In our battery loop test, the 4050 mAh battery supported for 13 hours 14 minutes. Common uses include chat apps, music streaming, camera usage, and gaming. Lenovo K10 Note comes with 18 W fast charging support. Only 63 percent battery in an hour, while the phone takes two and a half hours to fully charge.

Lenovo K10 Note cameras

Lenovo K10 Note has three rear cameras. On the backside, there will be a 16-megapixel primary camera with F / 1.8 aperture. An 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom has been given and the third is a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The primary sensor comes with PDAF due to which the focus speed is faster. The telephoto sensor takes a little time to lock focus.

The primary sensor of Lenovo's 10 Note captures the detail well when shooting in landscape. Colors were not oversaturated and white balance was also generally good. We also liked that there was not much sharpness in the pictures. The details in the middle of the frame were sharp. The phone also performed well in close-up shots, but we often had to tap on the viewfinder to get the right exposure.

The telephoto camera comes with 2x optical zoom, detail was captured well enough inadequate light. The edges around the object did not have the same sharpness as the primary sensor, but shots were good insufficient light. The camera of the phone was a bit slow to focus, due to which it was a bit difficult to take a picture of a fast-moving object. In low-light, the camera relies on digital zoom instead of switching on the sensor. Image quality was good.

In Lenovo K10 Note the portrait mode is called Dual, with the help of this you can add some extra background blur. Blur levels cannot be adjusted before and after the photograph is taken. Apart from this, it saves the picture in seconds after pressing the shutter button. Edge detection was good, you will also get Panorama and Pro mode, which allows the shutter speed to be set and also gives the option to save DNG RAW file.

In low-light indoor, Lenovo's 10 Note clicked good pictures without too much noise. Where the light was very low, there was some problem in capturing the details of the camera well. The picture looked good in the phone's display but when zoomed, there was blur texture and grain. Night shooting mode has also been provided for the primary camera, with the help of which good images were brought in the indoor but it is not much better during low light in the outdoor.

Lenovo's 10 Note averaged the quality of images captured with a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Even after the beauty filter was turned off, the sharpness and colors in the skin texture were not very accurate. Apart from this, there is also a beauty mode which comes with a preset beauty effect. If you want, you can also create a custom beauty filter for your face.

The Lenovo K10 Note is capable of shooting videos up to 4K resolution. Picture quality was also average, especially when shot in landscape. The quality was a bit better when shooting at 1080 resolution but the phone does not have stabilization which can disappoint you. But in low-light, the camera works well.

Our decision
On paper, Lenovo's 10 Note is a good Lenovo phone in the budget segment. It is light and the app performance is also good, the display is vivid and the battery life is also strong. Rear cameras in the back of the phone are also correct and having a telephoto camera in this price segment is also very good. Now let's talk about those things in which the 10 note of Lenovo could have been better and this includes the finish of the body.

The plastic back panel was difficult to keep clean. The camera is not very good in low-light. There is no electronic stabilization on the phone, the selfie camera was also nothing special. Overall Lenovo K10 Note is acceptable but Realme 5 Pro and Xiaomi Mi A3 (review) can also prove to be better options in this price segment.
