Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was launched on 18th Feb 2016 to safeguard the farmer’s interests across the country. PMFBY is a crop insurance scheme that facilitates the farmers to claim their insurance at times of adversity, such as natural calamities, pest attack or crop diseases. The scheme is a combined effort of both the Central and State government. “One Nation, One Scheme” is the main motto of the scheme and hence all other crop insurance schemes have been declined

Crop insurance is purchased by agricultural producers, including farmers, ranchers, and others to protect themselves against either the loss of their crops due to natural disasters, such as hail, drought, and floods, or the loss of revenue due to declines in the prices of agricultural commodities. The two general categories of crop insurance are called crop-yield insurance and crop-revenue insurance.
